Family Matters
with Dorothy Daniels
Imagine growing up without the love and support of family to guide you through life. That’s the stark reality for over 440,000 children in foster care in the US and over 8 million kids worldwide. Join us in welcoming Dorothy Daniels, a veteran foster adoptive mother, to discuss the important topic of life history. Child welfare research tells us that children do best in maintaining their mental health when they know who they are; that they hold and know a general history and can share their basic life story. Dorothy will share ideas for working with and navigating the somewhat treacherous waters of building and maintaining a relationship with a child’s family of origin. Advanced registration required.

In this interactive training, caregivers will learn what sexual and labor exploitation is, laws and policies that assist victims and survivors, how to identify potential victims, recruitment techniques and how victims are lured into the lifestyle of exploitation, the use of internet and social media in recruitment and the different tools and codes used online to promote, sell and traffic youth.Advanced registration required.

Grandparents as Parents
Grandparents as Parents is a support group of caregivers that are currently raising or have raised their grandchildren or another person's children. This group meets to provide support and information, as well as share personal experiences, with one another. It is open to any foster parent or anyone who is raising someone else's child.
First and third Thursday of the month, 11:00am – 1:00pm
